Performance for Aging Apple Devices
2020, Performance, Video, 30min
Performance for aging Apple devices is a composition using facetime video calls between damaged and discarded iPads, iPhones, and iMacs — and the nuances and limitations they produce — as a catalyst for new expanded cinema. The piece builds upon Richardson’s continued exploration into modes of appropriation of ubiquitous and outmoded media, and takes a playful approach to structualist work. The performance was originally designed to be live streamed (and viewed) on multiple devices.
Performance for aging Apple devices was co-presented by PLATFORM centre and The Art Gallery of Regina and performed and live streamed on June 1st and 4th 2020.
“Yet precisely what made this performance so compelling was Richardson’s choice to use one of the least charismatic avatars of desuetude—objects that nearly all of us have damaged and discarded (or dropped in toilets).”
